John Spratt has:

  • Settled the Catawba Indian claim and cleared title to 225 square miles of land in York and Lancaster Counties;
  • Secured over $120 million in building projects for Shaw Air Force Base and worked out a land swap for 13,000 acres, which gave the base a state-of-the-art bombing range. The new bombing range is a big plus for Shaw in base closure reviews;
  • Convinced the U.S. Forestry Service and Congress to deed 48,000 acres of Sandhills National Forest to South Carolina ;
  • Convinced Congress to adopt a payment formula for hospitals with disproportionate share of Medicaid patients, saving South Carolina hospitals $300 million over 5 years;
  • Helped rewrite the gas tax allocation formula, doubling SC DOT's allocation of federal funds for highways to $450 million a year;
  • Secured a $3 million appropriation to buy 1,049-acre addition to Landsford Canal State Park ...$1.4 million for Marian Wright Edelman Library in Bennettsville...$1 million to restore textile corridor in Rock Hill;
  • Helped secure and fund ˇ§Empowerment Zoneˇ¨ in Sumter County , making grants and tax incentives available for job, business, and community development;
  • Secured highway funds for Dillon/Marlboro and I-73,for Cherokee/York and I-85, for I-20 frontage road in Lee and interstate interchanges in Fairfield , Florence , and Newberry;
  • Helped firms like Sopakco in Bennettsville, Kaydon and Biopoure in Sumter , FN Industries in Lugoff, Huffman and Jameson in Clover, Timken in Gaffney, Cytec in Rock Hill , and Arvin Meritor in York , secure defense contracts;
  • Helped upfit National Guard units like the 3/178 Artillery Battalion, headquartered in Lancaster , by equipping it with the MLRS, the Army's premier artillery system;
  • Helped win grants for water and sewer in Dillon, McBee, Chesterfield , Darlington, Winnsboro, Sumter , Kershaw, & York
  • Helped win airport upgrades in Rock Hill , Sumter , Cheraw, Fairfield , and Kershaw; and
  • Helped secure Impact Aid for Sumter schools...$3 million for Mayo High in Darlington to become magnet school... $2 million in 21st Century School grants for Lancaster and Dillon.
