When John Spratt won his first election for Congress in 1982, he was helped by hundreds of volunteers. That's why in every race since, volunteers have played a key part. Whether it's putting up road signs, handing out literature, or answering the phone, the campaign becomes a team sport, with a spirit that lasts long after the race.
